Allergy Update 2
Today marked my (almost) 90 day return visit to the nutritionist for an update on my allergies/sensitivities.

The good news: wheat was indeed the public enemy #1. Now that it's effectively out of my system, a lot of other things evened way out. Some of the previously forbidden foods which are now on the moderation list include:

  • Milk — Hooray!
  • Beef and duck — nice to have more options again
  • Balsamic vinegar and rice vinegar — hooray!
  • Soy, including soy sauce, miso, and tofu — hooray! sushi!
  • Maple syrup, molasses, and stevia — so I have a few natural sweetening options, but still no honey :(
  • Some cheeses! — Hooray! The acceptable ones are brie, camembert, cheddar, and edam, with blue cheeses and most Italian cheeses still on the questionable list
  • White wine! Tea! — Hooray! Though now that I've given up caffeine entirely, even the smallest amount of non-herbal tea really sends me for a loop. Red wine was right on the line, and they said I could get away with it every once in a while.
  • Mayonnaise — meh
  • Saffron — nice to know
  • Walnuts and brazil nuts — meh

  • What's left? It seems I'm actually on sort of a wheat free plus virtual kosher/halal diet.
  • No wheat.
  • No pork.
  • No shellfish.

  • Also MSG and most refined sugars still scored a really high reaction, but I don't really know any reasons those are good to eat anyway.

And mysteriously, mussels scored perfectly okay. Clams, oysters, scallops definitely bad, and crab, shrimp, and lobster not so great, but mussels, go for it. So odd. I've only ever had one in my life, because I was convinced that the clam, oyster, scallop allergy would carry over. I think I'll still tread lightly in that territory anyway.
