Fashion Nightmares, Literally
There's a new summer fashion trend in Vancouver, seemingly limited to teenage and 20-something Asian girls: wearing a very long jersey knit shirt . . . and no pants. Sometimes the shirts are obviously made to be worn this way, with a ruffley skirty bit at the bottom, but often they're more or less just a night-shirt, if even that.

Today, after work, I had to send off some documents from the post office at Willingdon and Kingsway, and then took a shortcut through the Crystal Mall on the way to the SkyTrain station, where dozens of walking examples of this fashion statement proved it wasn't just a figment of my imagination.

Then, as I proceeded on to Station Square, I found myself walking behind a couple in their mid-20s or so. He was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. She was dressed in . . . a t-shirt. Which hit her at about mid-bum. With her black panties almost half exposed.

About the time I was wondering if she was aware of the exposure (or perhaps it was even intentional), the girl reached down and grabbed the hem of the t-shirt and did her best to stretch the shirt down to cover her panties as she walked.

To think, I've had nightmares about leaving home with no pants, and this girl had done it to herself on purpose. I bet next time she'll check the mirror before she goes outside.
